Detroit Red Wings make Sylvia Rodegher's hockey dream come true
A 10-year-old girl from Grand Rapids, Sylvia Rodegher, had her professional hockey dreams come true Saturday thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Detroit Red Wings. The day was filled with surprises as the young amateur hockey player received an honorary contract to join the team for a night.
Red Wings Captain Dylan Larkin presented her with the contract, making her an official member of the team for the day. Larkin expressed joy in seeing Rodegher's smile, stating, "We needed to see that." Prior to signing, she had the opportunity to watch the team practice and even scored a goal against goalie Cam Talbot during a breakaway, impressing everyone in attendance.
Having played for the Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association for three years, Rodegher has honed her skills as a defense player and isn’t shy about getting into the action. "I just like it. I don't know why," she said, reflecting her passion for the sport.
Her memorable day continued with an autograph signing session and a glamorous walk down the red carpet at Little Caesars Arena. The excitement culminated with her joining the Red Wings on the ice before their game against the Washington Capitals the following night.
This remarkable experience not only showcased Rodegher's talent but also highlighted the impact of organizations like Make-a-Wish, which create unforgettable moments for children facing challenges.
