Boston Habitat for Humanity CEO remembers Jimmy Carter as "a towering figure"

BOSTON - The passing of former President Jimmy Carter has prompted many to reflect on his impactful legacy, particularly his work with Habitat for Humanity. Known for championing housing initiatives, Carter's contributions significantly improved the lives of countless individuals around the world.

Bruce Percelay, a real estate developer and friend of Carter, shared insights into the former president's character, noting that his commitment to providing housing for those in need truly defined him. Percelay, who served as chair for Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston, emphasized the collaborative spirit Carter fostered, encouraging communities to come together to build homes.

Having visited Carter’s home in Georgia, Percelay recounted their time together, highlighting the former president's authenticity and humility. He remarked that Carter didn't fit the traditional image of a politician, showcasing a genuine approach that endeared him to many.

James Kostaras, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston, echoed the sentiments of many as he remembered Carter’s legacy. He described the former president as a "towering figure" in the movement to recognize housing as a fundamental human right, emphasizing the profound impact of his efforts.

Throughout his involvement with Habitat for Humanity, Carter worked alongside over 100,000 volunteers across 14 countries, contributing to the construction of over 4,300 homes for those in need. His dedication to this cause exemplified his belief in community and service, leaving an enduring mark on the world.
