Miami Park West Metromover Station to close for 6 months
MIAMI - Beginning Monday, the Park West Metromover Station will undergo a significant six-month renovation. Located at the intersection of Northeast Second Avenue and Eighth Street, this station has been operational since 1994 and is situated two blocks northwest of the Kaseya Center.
The renovation aims to modernize the station, enhance the rider experience, and improve the surrounding area, as per a Miami-Dade County news release. This initiative is part of the larger Miami World Center urban development project taking place in downtown Miami. Collaborating on the project are the Department of Transportation and Public Works, alongside the developers of the Miami World Center.
The upgrades will focus on enhancing the station's appearance and increasing safety for commuters. Plans include the installation of brighter, more energy-efficient lighting throughout the station and its vicinity, as well as new platform seating for improved comfort.
During the renovation period, Metromover trains will not stop at the Park West station, but passengers can easily use nearby stations like Freedom Tower and Eleventh Street, which are located just a three-minute walk away. Previous similar closures and improvements have been completed at the Freedom Tower and Museum Park stations.
As the Metromover system, which operates free of charge, plays a vital role in connecting key destinations in Miami, the project is seen as an important step toward building a safer and more connected community. The Metromover operates daily from 5 a.m. to midnight, serving 21 stations and facilitating access to major landmarks such as the Kaseya Center and Miami Dade College.
