Colorado Gov. Polis delivers State of the State Address, focuses on housing, education
Colorado Governor Jared Polis delivered his State of the State Address at the Capitol, emphasizing both the strengths and challenges faced by the state. He celebrated the arrival of the National Women's Soccer Team and the upcoming NFL Wild Card game featuring the Denver Broncos, underscoring the vibrant community spirit in Colorado.
Polis articulated a vision of continuous improvement, stating that in Colorado, "it's not good enough is not good enough." He emphasized the need to enhance the standard of living, improve community safety, and ensure affordable housing access. His remarks highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses and jobs, protecting natural spaces, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive without excuses.
The governor also addressed the future of the US Space Command, asserting its rightful place in Colorado. Following a contentious decision during Donald Trump's presidency to move the command to Alabama, President Biden's reversal in July 2023 reaffirmed Colorado's position as a crucial hub for national security operations.
Polis pointed to Colorado's leadership in the quantum computing technology sector as a sign of the state's innovative spirit and economic potential. He expressed confidence in the state's ability to push forward despite challenges that come from federal leadership.
In his closing remarks, Polis reassured Coloradans that the decisions made in their legislature would prioritize the well-being of residents, asserting, "Here in this legislature and in this state, we can and we will do better."
