Arizona fire department welcomes 19 babies from 18 firefighters in 2024
Earlier this month, the Chandler Fire Department organized a heartwarming gathering for its team members and their families, where they posed for memorable group photos with their newborns. The creative idea for the photoshoot was inspired by Lexi Friedman, fiancée of department engineer Jack Bernard, who noted that many male colleagues were becoming fathers. Bernard, who shares a newborn daughter named Jersey June with Friedman, explained how this concept evolved into a unique opportunity for the department to bond.
With several new parents among the firefighters, the group has established a chat to share parenting advice and updates. Bernard emphasized the value of having colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences to discuss the challenges of parenthood. The camaraderie developed through this shared experience has allowed them to support each other and even find humor in sleepless nights as they navigate their new roles.
Bernard described his daughter Jersey as "a blessing" in his life, exuding happiness and laughter. The department has seen an impressive 19 births in 2024, including one instance of twins, highlighting the growing number of young families within the firehouse. This baby boom has contributed to a stronger community among the firefighters and their families.
Blas Minor, the department's chief of public relations, noted that events like this allow parents to connect and share experiences. He remarked that in his 24 years with the department, he has never witnessed such a significant surge in new births, acknowledging that while other departments have reported similar trends, Chandler’s situation was unplanned yet welcomed.
Reflecting on the significance of the photoshoot, Bernard highlighted how this joyful event allowed the firefighters to step away from their challenging work experiences and purely celebrate the joy of family together. The gathering served not just as a fun occasion but also as a reaffirmation of their supportive community during a transformative time in their lives.
