TikToker Baylen Dupree talks living with Tourette syndrome, new TLC show
TikToker Baylen Dupree, who has nearly 10 million followers on the platform, is using her newfound fame to raise awareness about Tourette syndrome in her upcoming TLC reality show, "Baylen Out Loud." The 22-year-old has gained attention for her candid portrayal of living with the neurological disorder, which is characterized by sudden, uncontrollable movements and vocalizations known as tics. Dupree’s journey is marked by a determination to reclaim her narrative after facing bullying and negativity online.
After experiencing bullying that made her feel out of control, Dupree decided to embrace transparency about her life with Tourette syndrome. She explained to "Good Morning America" that she wanted to take back ownership of her condition, saying, "I want to be in control of my diagnosis, my life, my condition." Her mission is to empower herself while also offering support to others who may be navigating similar challenges.
Dupree first noticed her tics at a young age, with symptoms fluctuating in severity over the years, particularly worsening during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new TLC series will depict her life as she faces severe vocal and motor tics, supported by her family and friends, including her five siblings and boyfriend Colin. Through the show, she aims to provide a more comprehensive look at her experiences beyond the short clips shared on social media.
In her efforts to raise awareness, Dupree hopes that "Baylen Out Loud" will not only shed light on the realities of living with Tourette syndrome but also inspire others with disabilities. She emphasized the importance of finding humor and positivity in the face of adversity, saying, "I just wanted to take a negative situation... and turn it into a positive thing."
Dupree also highlights the significance of patience and understanding for those supporting loved ones with Tourette syndrome. She encourages embracing differences and showing grace, reminding viewers that everyone has their struggles. "All of us are more alike than we are different," she noted, advocating for compassion and support as essential elements of navigating life's complexities. "Baylen Out Loud" is set to premiere on Monday, Jan. 13, at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
