Former Villanova basketball star Maddy Siegrist returns to Wildcats in new role, prepares for 3rd WNBA season
Just two years ago, Maddy Siegrist was making headlines at Villanova University, where she set records as the program's all-time leading scorer. Not only did she achieve this milestone for Villanova, but she also became the Big East's all-time leading scorer across both men's and women's competitions, capping off her senior year as the NCAA's scoring champion.
Now, while Siegrist competes professionally for the Dallas Wings, she is also back at Villanova in a player development role. This involves working closely with current players to enhance their skills through training and practice support, where she takes on various responsibilities such as scouting and coaching during practice sessions.
Villanova's head coach, Denise Dillon, expressed how much she misses Siegrist on the court, reflecting on the positive impact she had on the team. Dillon acknowledged Siegrist's leadership and skill, stating that her presence brought a special energy which translated into success for the program.
As Siegrist navigates her dual role at Villanova, she remains focused on her development as a professional athlete, preparing for her third season. Despite injuries limiting her performance last year, she averaged nearly 10 points per game with the Wings and is determined to become a standout player in the league.
Siegrist is also cultivating her passion for coaching, with Dillon affirming her potential in that area. With her sights set on staying connected to the sport, Siegrist views this opportunity at Villanova as a crucial step in her career, allowing her to refine her own game while mentoring the next generation of players.
