In Wexford, thirty children with disabilities from Southwestern Pennsylvania received adaptive bikes and strollers on Thursday morning, enhancing their opportunities for independence. Among the recipients was six-year-old Audrey White from Monaca, who was overjoyed to finally own a bike tailored for her needs. Audrey's mother, Amber Prince, had initially doubted how her daughter would ride a typical bike after Audrey faced significant health challenges from birth, including having her legs amputated.

Two years ago, during a visit to a physical therapist, Audrey tested an adaptive bike that provided hope for both her and her family. Their journey led them to Variety the Children's Charity of Pittsburgh, which focuses on fostering inclusivity among children with disabilities. According to CEO Tom Baker, the charity aims to create opportunities for children to ride alongside their peers, enriching their experiences of inclusion in social activities.

The recent event, held at Orchard Hill Church, featured the donation of 12 bikes and 20 strollers, totaling over $72,000. Since its inception in 2012, the nonprofit has contributed an impressive 3,530 pieces of custom-made mobility equipment to local children, addressing a significant and growing demand for such resources.

Despite the challenges many families face, the joy these adaptations bring is profound. Amber Prince expressed her excitement at watching her daughter experience life without limitations, eagerly anticipating the day Audrey rides with her friends and siblings. "If there's something that she can't do like the other kids, she finds a way," she said, highlighting her daughter's resilience.

For families seeking similar equipment, Variety the Children's Charity provides an application process to help meet their needs. The organization continues to make strides in transforming the lives of children with disabilities throughout the region.
