Visit Philly's "Legacy and Love" campaign highlights Philly's Black family-owned businesses

A new social media campaign titled "Legacy and Love" will launch on February 1, highlighting Black family-owned businesses throughout Philadelphia. This initiative, spearheaded by Visit Philadelphia, aims to celebrate the generational stories behind these enterprises that contribute to the city's unique character and charm.

Visit Philadelphia's Director of Diverse Marketing, Daniel Davis, emphasized the importance of showcasing these businesses and the families that operate them. "Our city is filled with a lot of great businesses and families that see Philadelphia as a place to develop and grow their legacy," he explained. The campaign seeks to narrate the journey of these businesses from their inception to their current successes.

Among the featured businesses are Paul Beale's Flowers in North Philadelphia, Vera Doyle, a boutique in Mt. Airy, Hakim's Bookstore, which is notable for being the first of its kind in the U.S., and Arterial Coffee, a café run by sisters. Each of these establishments embodies the richness of Black entrepreneurship in the city.

Davis believes that the campaign aims to foster a sense of inclusion and pride by bringing attention to the legacies and commitment these families have to serving the Philadelphia community. He feels that it will highlight both well-known and lesser-known businesses, reinforcing a collective appreciation for what they contribute to the city's vibrant culture.
