PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Following a tragic accident in Lincoln-Lemington that claimed the life of 28-year-old Leondre Johnson, Pittsburgh city officials will introduce traffic calming measures at the intersection of Rowan Street and Paulson Avenue. Residents expressed optimism that these improvements will enhance safety in the area, which has been plagued by speeding vehicles.

Three weeks prior to the initiative, Johnson’s car went over a hillside after losing control in a curve. Despite swift medical attention, he later succumbed to his injuries. In response to this incident, the city's "Vision Zero" Fatal Crash Response Team assessed the location and decided on three key infrastructure changes.

Improvements will include advanced curve warning signs and enhanced pavement markings, alongside advisory speed limit signs suggesting a maximum of 15 miles per hour at the bend. Additionally, chevron signs will be placed along the curve to boost visibility for drivers navigating the area.

Residents have emphasized the urgent need for these measures, highlighting the dangers posed by drivers who often speed around the tight curve. One local, Desiree Kritschgau, remarked on the swift nature of accidents in such hot spots, advocating for both physical changes and heightened driver awareness.

While the specific timeline for these changes remains unclear, the community looks forward to a safer environment and hopes that increased caution from drivers will accompany the upcoming safety measures.
