A Tennessee woman, Kristi Johnson, recently shared a poignant story on TikTok and "Good Morning America" about a final wish from her late mother, Rebecca Creager Deatherage, during her time in hospice. Johnson revealed that her mother urged her to have knee surgery she had postponed, expressing a desire to care for her before it was too late. This heartfelt request resonated widely, with Johnson's video garnering over 10 million views since January 13.

In her recollection, Johnson shared how Deatherage insisted, "Kristi, if you do not get your knee fixed, I'm going to miss taking care of you." After much persuasion, Johnson underwent surgery for a torn meniscus. Despite her own battles with throat and neck cancer, Deatherage fulfilled her promise by caring for Johnson during her recovery, providing love and support in her time of need.

Johnson captured moments with her mother during this period, knowing deep down it might be one of their last significant times together. Reflecting on her mother’s strength and resilience, she expressed her admiration, saying, "I've always been in awe of her strength and her dignity." This admiration became even more poignant as Deatherage passed away in July 2021, just months after Johnson’s surgery.

Following her mother’s death, Johnson and her family orchestrated a celebration of her life instead of a traditional funeral, honoring Deatherage's joyful spirit. They decorated the venue with her mother’s artwork and served her favorite dishes, creating a space filled with love and memories rather than sorrow.
