A heartwarming reunion took place at Hygiene Elementary School in Longmont as the principal, staff, and Boulder County Sheriff's Office collaborated to surprise a military member with his family. Lt. Col. Brandon Ward of the United States Army Reserve recently returned from overseas, and his wife, school counselor Amy Ward, was in for a delightful surprise.

As students and staff gathered outside the school for the emotional moment, a video shared by St. Vrain Valley Schools displayed the excitement in the air. Students held a banner proclaiming, "Welcome home we are so proud of you," while anticipation built with the arrival of BCSO patrol vehicles.

Upon seeing the approaching vehicles and the flashing cameras, Amy was taken aback, asking, "What's going on here? What's happening?" In that moment, Lt. Col. Ward emerged from one of the vehicles, bouquet of roses in hand, ready to embrace his family.

The touching scene unfolded as Amy and their children rushed to Ward, who enveloped them in a heartfelt hug. The joy and relief of the reunion were palpable, creating a memorable experience for everyone present.

In a special message, the school district expressed their gratitude, stating, “To Lieutenant Colonel Ward and to all who serve, including their families... Thank you.” This heartfelt recognition underscored the importance of honoring those who serve in the military and their loved ones.
