Pittsburgh-area kids take part in NFL Play 60 training camp
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- As the Super Bowl approaches, the excitement for football remains alive in Pittsburgh, even without the Steelers in the mix. Last Saturday, numerous children participated in the NFL Play 60 training camp, enjoying a variety of activities designed to promote physical fitness and fun.
The camp featured events like the 40-yard dash and pass catching drills, all aimed at energizing the young athletes. Kip Eroh, one of the participants, shared his enthusiasm, mentioning that he had donuts before arriving, which only added to his excitement for the day. "I was like, 'I need to come here,'" he said, highlighting the camp’s enjoyable atmosphere.
The Heinz History Center echoed with the sounds of laughter and music as children engaged in activities such as flag football, competitions, and even crafting temporary tattoos. Jessica Smyth from the Heinz History Center expressed her delight in the event, referring to the joyful energy of the kids as "the best."
Moreover, Special Olympics Pennsylvania provided a unique opportunity for children to learn about unified bocce, enhancing the camp's focus on inclusivity and skill development. Smyth emphasized the goal of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum to encourage participants to not only enjoy the physical activities but also to engage with local history and organizations throughout the event.
Parents echoed the sentiment of enjoyment and community, with Kenny Taylor noting the positive experience for his son. "Glad he's out there enjoying himself, getting some exercise, probably meeting some new friends," said Taylor, capturing the spirit of camaraderie that defines such community events.
