Advancing Youth Initiative receives grant used towards Dominus High School's curriculum
The Advancing Youth Initiative has secured a grant from the Richard King Mellon Foundation to create an entrepreneurial curriculum for Dominus High School. This funding aims to address opportunity gaps and enhance academic performance, ultimately fostering economic mobility in the Greater Pittsburgh Region.
Wayne Jones, the Founder of Dominus High School and CEO of Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship, emphasizes that the grant will facilitate the development of a curriculum centered on entrepreneurial concepts. This innovative approach will engage students in critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
In addition to curriculum development, the grant will support the Dominus team in visiting innovative high schools across the nation. These visits will provide valuable insights and best practices that can be incorporated into the new school's curriculum.
Set to open in Fall 2025, Dominus High School will initially serve ninth and tenth graders, with plans to expand each year until it accommodates students through the twelfth grade within three years. This progressive expansion reflects the school's commitment to fostering an enriching educational environment.
Overall, the grant represents a significant step in equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in today's entrepreneurial landscape, thereby contributing to the region's economic development.
