Chiefs bring back wide receiver 'Hollywood' Brown on deal worth up to $11 million, AP source says
The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed wide receiver Marquise Brown on a one-year deal that could be worth up to $11 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. The confirmation comes as the Chiefs look to bolster their receiving corps, having already lost several key players in free agency.
Last season, Brown signed a similar one-year contract but faced challenges due to injury. He dislocated his shoulder on the first play of the preseason, which sidelined him until Week 15. Despite his limited playtime, he managed to make nine catches for 91 yards in the regular season and contributed five catches for 50 yards in the playoffs, including two catches for 15 yards in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.
At 27, Brown has shown potential as a deep threat when healthy but has struggled with injuries throughout his six-year NFL career. Notably, he has only played a full 16-game season once. The Chiefs' decision to retain Brown ensures they have at least one experienced receiver amid the uncertainty surrounding their young talent, including Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice.
Both Worthy and Rice face personal issues that could affect their availability. Worthy was recently arrested on a charge of assault involving choking, which is considered a felony in Texas. His attorneys maintain his innocence while the Chiefs are still gathering information regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, Rice is dealing with multiple civil lawsuits and criminal charges stemming from a high-speed crash in March 2024. The Chiefs’ focus now shifts to managing their receiver lineup and addressing the legal challenges facing their younger players as they prepare for the upcoming season.
