NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Authorities have charged a 29-year-old man, Joshua Thomas Smalls, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday in North Charleston. He faces charges of murder and illegal possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Police were dispatched to the 8400 block of Preakness Drive shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Saturday following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim within a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services transported the injured man to a nearby hospital; however, he later succumbed to his injuries. The Charleston County Coroner's Office has yet to release the name of the deceased.

Investigations continue as police work to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The community remains on alert as law enforcement addresses the incident.
