Chiefs bring back wide receiver 'Hollywood' Brown on deal worth up to $11 million, AP source says
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs are set to re-sign wide receiver Marquise Brown with a one-year deal valued at up to $11 million, according to an insider who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. While the terms are in place, the agreement has yet to be finalized.
Brown previously joined the Chiefs on a one-year contract last season, aiming to leverage a strong performance alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes into a long-term deal. Unfortunately, he dislocated his shoulder on the first play of the preseason, a setback that required surgery and sidelined him until Week 15. In limited action, Brown recorded nine receptions for 91 yards during the regular season, followed by five catches for 50 yards in the playoffs.
At 27 years old, Brown has shown potential as a thrilling downfield threat when healthy, yet he has battled injuries throughout his six-year NFL career, managing to play a full 16-game season only once. As the Chiefs faced the possibility of losing several wide receivers—including DeAndre Hopkins and JuJu Smith-Schuster—to free agency, re-signing Brown provides them with experience alongside younger players in their receiving corps.
The young receivers, Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice, are also facing off-the-field challenges. Worthy was arrested on charges of assault involving choking, which could lead to serious legal consequences as the charge is classified as a third-degree felony in Texas. His attorneys maintain that he is innocent, and the Chiefs have acknowledged they are monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Rice is entangled in two civil lawsuits and multiple criminal charges related to a high-speed crash while driving a Lamborghini earlier this year. As these issues develop, the Chiefs are working to solidify their roster and navigate potential disruptions amid this tumultuous offseason.
