KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Kansas City Chiefs are set to re-sign wide receiver Marquise Brown to a one-year contract valued at up to $11 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. The details of the deal were not finalized as of Saturday, but the Chiefs hope to strengthen their receiving corps.

Brown, who signed a similar one-year deal with the Chiefs last season, faced a challenging year after suffering a shoulder injury during the preseason that kept him sidelined until Week 15. In his limited appearances, he recorded nine catches for 91 yards in two regular-season games and contributed five catches for 50 yards in the playoffs, although the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Despite his talent as a deep threat, Brown has had a history of injuries throughout his six-year NFL career, only managing to play a full 16-game season once. His return is particularly significant for the Chiefs as they look to retain veteran presence in their receiver lineup, especially with multiple other wideouts, including DeAndre Hopkins and JuJu Smith-Schuster, hitting free agency.

In addition to Brown's situation, the Chiefs face challenges with young receivers Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. Worthy was recently arrested and charged with assault, a serious allegation that could impact his availability going forward. His attorneys maintain his innocence as the Chiefs gather more information on the incident.

Meanwhile, Rice is also entangled in legal issues stemming from a high-speed crash involving a Lamborghini earlier this year. As both players navigate their respective situations, Brown's return could provide the stability that the Chiefs need among their receiving options for the upcoming season.
