KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Kansas City Chiefs are set to re-sign wide receiver Marquise Brown on a one-year deal worth up to $11 million, according to a source familiar with the negotiations who spoke anonymously. This move comes after Brown's challenging previous season, which was marred by injury, limiting his contributions on the field.

Last season, Brown signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in hopes of capitalizing on his performance with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Unfortunately, he dislocated his shoulder on the first snap of the preseason, sidelining him until Week 15. In total, he recorded nine catches for 91 yards and added five catches for 50 yards during the playoffs, including a slight contribution in the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 27-year-old receiver has shown flashes of brilliance as a downfield threat when healthy, but injuries have been a recurring issue throughout his six-year NFL career, with only one season in which he played more than 16 games. The re-signing of Brown is crucial for the Chiefs, who were facing a significant depletion of their wide receiver corps due to impending free agency departures.

In addition to Brown, the Chiefs' roster will feature younger players like Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. However, both players are currently dealing with off-field challenges that could affect their availability for the upcoming season. Worthy has been arrested on a third-degree felony charge related to domestic assault, with his legal team asserting his innocence.

Meanwhile, Rice faces multiple civil lawsuits and criminal charges stemming from a high-speed crash earlier this year. The Chiefs organization is aware of these situations and is actively gathering more information as they prepare for the next season amid the turmoil.
