Kansas City Chiefs star arrested in Texas, authorities say

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday in Georgetown, Texas, facing a domestic violence charge. The Williamson County Sheriff's Office reported that the 21-year-old was taken into custody for a third-degree felony assault charge, specifically related to allegations of impeding the normal breathing or circulation of a household member.
Worthy's attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, issued a statement acknowledging the allegations and asserting their intention to work with law enforcement in Williamson County. They claimed that the situation escalated after the complainant was asked to vacate Worthy’s residence due to allegations of infidelity, and they characterized the claims against him as baseless.
The attorneys expressed confidence in the investigation, indicating they believe it will demonstrate Worthy's innocence. They also mentioned that the complainant had attempted extortion prior to making the assault allegation.
Worthy, who was selected 28th overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, had an impressive rookie season with the Chiefs, recording 59 receptions for 638 yards and 9 total touchdowns. In the playoffs, he emerged as a standout player, leading the team with 19 receptions for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns over three games.
The Chiefs have acknowledged the situation, stating, "We are aware and gathering information" regarding Worthy’s arrest as they monitor the developments.
