Prince George's Police Pursuit Ends in Fatal Crash , IID Investigation Underway - The BayNet

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. - A tragic police pursuit in Prince George's County on Friday evening resulted in the death of a juvenile and injuries to several others after a fleeing vehicle collided with multiple cars. The incident unfolded around 6:25 p.m. when a District Heights Police Department officer attempted to stop an Infiniti SUV in the 6000 block of Marlboro Pike. Initially complying, the driver soon fled northbound on Addison Road South.
Though the officer lost visual contact with the vehicle, they relayed its description, enabling officers from both the District Heights and Capitol Heights Police Departments to locate the Infiniti. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into four other cars in the 1200 block of Addison Road South.
As a result of the collision, a juvenile occupant from one of the struck vehicles was transported to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. Another occupant, a woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized, while the Infiniti's driver was taken into custody and treated for injuries that were also deemed non-life-threatening.
In addition to the fatalities and serious injuries, minor injuries were reported among the occupants of the other vehicles, all of whom received treatment at the scene following the crash. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID) is overseeing the investigation.
The IID has announced that body-worn camera footage from the incident will typically be released within 20 business days, though this timeframe may be extended for further investigation or to allow the family of the juvenile victim to view the footage prior to public release.
