Shooting outside Schiel's Family Market in Wilkes-Barre sends one to hospital

City police in Wilkes-Barre are currently investigating a shooting that took place Saturday afternoon near Schiel's Family Market on Hanover Street. Officers responded to a call at approximately 2:10 p.m. regarding an aggravated assault involving a male and female. Upon arrival, police discovered the male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and he was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The female involved in the incident was located near the parking lot and was detained by the police for questioning. The Wilkes-Barre Detective Division, along with the Luzerne County Detective Division, arrived on the scene by 3:30 p.m. to assist in the investigation while nearby shoppers were turned away and employees of Schiel's Family Market were seen vacating the premises.

As the investigation progressed, the parking area adjacent to the store was cordoned off with police tape, blocking access to would-be customers. By 6:30 p.m., authorities confirmed that the crime scene had been cleared, allowing individuals who had left their vehicles in the lot during the investigation to retrieve them.

The owner of Schiel's Family Market, Gary Schiel, commented on the incident, expressing gratitude for the prompt response of local police and emergency personnel. He indicated that the shooting appeared to be an isolated event, aimed at reassuring customers and staff amid the unsettling occurrence.
