ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An officer-involved shooting occurred on Saturday in East Point, resulting in a person being shot. The incident unfolded at an apartment complex on Stone Road after the East Point Police Department received a call around 4:30 p.m. concerning a mentally ill individual who had ingested narcotics and was threatening self-harm.

Upon arrival, officers tried to use de-escalation tactics to gain compliance from the distressed individual. However, the situation escalated as the person became aggressive, brandishing a knife and threatening the officers present. During the confrontation, the individual lunged at one of the officers, prompting the officer to fire and strike the person in the torso.
