Questions remain after Memphis area woman found dead in sunken car, investigations launched into restaurant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Memphis woman's tragic death has sparked investigations into potential drink tampering at two Collierville restaurants, one of which she visited the night before her car was found submerged in a retention pond. Kristen Fundo, 35, was leaving Casa Mexicana when she went missing, leading local and state authorities to scrutinize the establishment.
While Casa Mexicana has not been charged with any wrongdoing and is cooperating with investigations, the death of Fundo has raised serious concerns. Her husband, Michael Fundo, expressed his grief, sharing how they had celebrated 13 years together and how he felt helpless as he tracked her phone that indicated she was heading home before her car ended up in the pond.
Kristen was last known to be at Casa Mexicana with a friend, excited to conclude the workweek. After losing contact with her, Michael tried reaching her multiple times, noting that she usually answered her phone. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance have been described as agonizing, especially as he watched the last moments of her journey unfold on a map from overseas.
Currently, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office is awaiting a toxicology report to determine the official cause of her death. Meanwhile, the Collierville Police Department is investigating several reports of drink tampering at the two restaurants, although no criminal incidents have been confirmed yet.
Fundo leaves behind a husband and three children, and her family has set up a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses. Casa Mexicana has engaged with the inquiries but has not yet provided a detailed comment on the situation.
