Officer involved shooting at southside apartments

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- On Saturday night at 10:45, officers from the Corpus Christi Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle near Staples and Saratoga. The driver fled, turning around in an HEB parking lot before entering the Summit Apartment complex on Saratoga.
The car was eventually cornered in a dead-end area of the apartments, surrounded by police vehicles. In a surprising turn of events, the driver began ramming into the patrol cars, prompting one officer to discharge their weapon in an effort to halt the threat.
The officer's shot struck the driver, who was subsequently taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The incident has raised questions about police engagement during vehicle pursuits.
In accordance with department policy, the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while the situation is assessed.
