US Secret Service shoots armed man near White House: spokesman

US Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House late Saturday night, while President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. An agency spokesman confirmed the incident early Sunday but did not clarify whether the White House or the President was the intended target.

The man was taken to a hospital, with his condition remaining unknown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the Secret Service agents involved, according to spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, who shared details on the social media platform X.

Local police had alerted the Secret Service about a "suicidal" man traveling from Indiana to Washington. Around midnight, agents located the suspect's parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, in close proximity to the White House.

Upon approaching the individual, agents observed that he matched the description provided earlier. As officers got closer, the man brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation during which shots were fired by Secret Service personnel.

Washington police are currently investigating the incident and have not released further information about the man's identity or the details surrounding the confrontation.
