US secret service shoots armed man near White House: spokesman

WASHINGTON: US Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House during the night while President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The agency confirmed the incident in a statement early Sunday.
The man was hospitalized, but his condition remains unknown. It is unclear whether he targeted the White House or Trump. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the Secret Service agents involved in the confrontation.
Local police had alerted the agents about a potentially "suicidal" man traveling from Indiana. Around midnight, the agents found his vehicle parked near 17th and F Streets, which is very close to the White House.
Upon spotting a suspect matching the description given by the police, the agents approached the individual. As they did, he brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which the Secret Service personnel discharged their weapons.
The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and an investigation into the incident is being conducted by Washington police.
