Secret Service shoots armed man near White House, authorities say; Trump out of town

WASHINGTON -- Early on Sunday, a man carrying a firearm near the White House was shot and injured by Secret Service personnel. The incident followed a warning from local police about a "suicidal individual" potentially traveling from Indiana to Washington.
Around midnight, Secret Service agents located the man's parked vehicle near 17th and F streets, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. They spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description nearby.
As officers approached the man, he brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which shots were fired by Secret Service personnel. The suspect was subsequently taken to a local hospital, but his condition remains unknown.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the Secret Service personnel involved in the incident. At the time of the shooting, President Donald Trump was in Florida.
