Virginia Man Arrested for Felony Assault in Delaware

Rehoboth Beach, DE - Charles Gehman, a resident of Lynchburg, Virginia, was arrested by the Delaware State Police for felony assault following an incident that took place on Saturday morning. The events unfolded on March 8, 2025, when officers responded to a noise complaint related to a protest near Popeye's on Coastal Highway.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found a 65-year-old man who had suffered minor injuries as a result of an altercation concerning traffic and parking issues. Identifying Gehman as the assailant, the officers began searching for him.

Shortly after the incident, Troopers spotted Gehman leaving the area in a gray Toyota Corolla with Virginia license plates. They were able to apprehend him without any complications.

Gehman was transported to Troop 7 where he was formally charged and then taken to Justice of the Peace Court 3 for arraignment. He has been charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree, which involves causing injury to a person over the age of 62, a classification that qualifies as a felony.

Following his arraignment, Gehman was released on a $4,000 unsecured bond. The case highlights the consequences of disputes escalating to physical violence, especially involving vulnerable individuals.
