US Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House in the early hours of Sunday while President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. An agency spokesman confirmed the incident, noting that the man was hospitalized but his condition remains unclear. The statement did not indicate if the White House or Trump was the intended target.

The spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, reported that no Secret Service agents were injured in the shooting. Local police had previously alerted the agents about a "suicidal" individual traveling from Indiana to Washington, prompting the agents to be on high alert.

Around midnight, the agents located the suspect's parked vehicle near 17th and F Streets, just a short distance from the White House. Shortly thereafter, they encountered a man who matched the description provided by law enforcement.

According to the statement, as the officers approached, the individual drew a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which the agents fired their weapons.

The suspect was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the investigation into the incident is being conducted by Washington police.
