WASHINGTON (7News) -- An armed man near the White House was shot by U.S. Secret Service officers just after midnight on Sunday. The incident occurred at the intersection of 17th and G Streets in Northwest, D.C., as part of a situation involving a previously reported "suicidal" person traveling from Indiana.

Earlier that day, local police had alerted authorities about the individual's erratic behavior. When Secret Service officers located the man’s vehicle around 17th and F Streets, they identified a person matching the suspect's description walking on foot.

As officers approached him, he brandished a firearm, prompting them to respond with gunfire. The agency's statement confirmed that an armed confrontation ensued, leading to shots being fired by the officers.

The man was subsequently taken to a local hospital, though his condition remains unclear. Fortunately, no Secret Service officers were injured during the encounter.

This incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding safety and security in the vicinity of the White House and the prompt response of law enforcement in potentially dangerous situations.
