Secret Service shoots gunman near White House

A U.S. Secret Service officer shot an armed man early Sunday morning during a confrontation near the White House, as reported by officials. The incident occurred just after midnight at the intersection of 17th and G Streets NW, where Secret Service personnel encountered the man, who was reportedly traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C., after local police had expressed concerns about his suicidal state.
As officers approached the individual, he brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation in which shots were fired by the Secret Service personnel. The agency stated that the situation escalated quickly, prompting a lethal response.
The man involved in the altercation was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but his current condition remains unknown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the Secret Service personnel involved in the incident.
Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, confirmed the agency's role in the shooting and emphasized the seriousness of the confrontation.
