ORLANDO, Fla. - A tragic hit-and-run accident occurred early Sunday near Orlando, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old woman and serious injuries to her 85-year-old passenger, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident took place at approximately 12:38 a.m. on Sand Lake Road at the intersection with Winegard Road.

Officials report that a 2020 BMW X3 was traveling westbound in the inner lane as it approached the red light at the intersection. At that moment, a 2000 Honda Odyssey, driven by the Orlando woman, was stopped at the same red light, carrying her elderly passenger from Pembroke Pines.

In a concerning turn of events, the driver of the BMW failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the Honda. After the collision, the occupants of the BMW fled the scene on foot. Authorities later apprehended a 25-year-old man from Kissimmee who had fled, and he was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with significant injuries.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Honda did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The elderly passenger also required hospitalization due to serious injuries sustained in the crash.
