Authorities: Armed man shot by Secret Service near White House while Trump out of town

An armed man traveling from Indiana was shot by U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House early Sunday after a confrontation occurred. The incident took place around midnight, approximately a block from the White House, while President Donald Trump was in Florida. Fortunately, no one else was injured during the shooting.
According to a statement from the Secret Service, local police had informed them of a "suicidal individual" reportedly on the way from Indiana. Upon finding the man's car and a person matching his description nearby, Secret Service officers approached him. During the confrontation, the individual brandished a firearm, which led to the armed agents firing shots.
The man was transported to a hospital for treatment, although his current condition remains unknown. The situation is now being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, given that it involves law enforcement officers.
While details regarding the investigation are limited, the Secret Service emphasized that their personnel acted in response to an immediate threat. The shooting highlights ongoing concerns about public safety in high-security areas, particularly when individuals exhibit distressing behavior.
As the investigation unfolds, the Secret Service will likely continue to work closely with local authorities to gather more information regarding this incident and ensure the safety of public spaces in the capital.
