Secret Service shoots gunman near White House

A U.S. Secret Service officer shot an armed man early Sunday morning following a confrontation near the White House, officials have reported. The incident happened shortly after midnight at the intersection of 17th and G Street NW, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
According to the Secret Service, the man had traveled to Washington, D.C., from Indiana and was reportedly suicidal, prompting local police to issue a warning about him. During the encounter, he brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation where shots were fired by Secret Service personnel.
Fortunately, none of the officers were injured during the incident. Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesperson for the Secret Service, confirmed the agency's involvement in the situation.
The investigation into the shooting is being led by the Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division Force Investigations Team, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in the district.
Details about the gunman's condition remain unclear, as he was taken to the hospital following the shooting. Additionally, authorities have not disclosed how many shots were fired, whether the suspect fired on the officers first, or the identities of those involved in the incident.
