Middle schoolers arrested after allegedly assaulting student with Stanley cup

In New Castle, Delaware, two 13-year-old girls have been charged with assault after allegedly attacking a classmate with a metal Stanley cup at Calvin R. McCullough Middle School. The incident occurred on the morning of February 28, when the girls reportedly struck the 13-year-old victim multiple times in the head.
Alongside the two girls, a 12-year-old male student also participated in the assault, reportedly hitting the victim with his hands. School staff intervened and managed to separate the involved students before the situation escalated further, and the girls were subsequently placed in the custody of their guardians during the investigation.
Delaware State Police conducted an investigation, leading to the issuance of warrants for the two 13-year-olds. They eventually turned themselves in and faced several charges, including assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, conspiracy, and disorderly conduct. The 12-year-old boy was charged with a misdemeanor offense.
After being arraigned at the New Castle County Family Court, the two girls were released to their guardians on a $7,500 unsecured bond. Meanwhile, the victim of the assault was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for serious head injuries resulting from the attack.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about youth violence in schools and the responsibilities that come with handling such conflicts in educational settings. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the assault to ensure appropriate measures are taken moving forward.
