Colorado teen arrested for allegedly stealing delivery driver's car

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A minor was taken into custody by the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) for allegedly stealing a car from a pizza delivery driver. The incident occurred on March 6 when detectives from the Motor Vehicle Theft Unit aided the CSPD in their investigation regarding a stolen 2012 Hyundai Tucson.
The vehicle was reported stolen while the delivery driver was making a stop near Highway 24 in Manitou Springs, where the driver left the car running momentarily at a customer's door. Fortunately, the car was equipped with a "LoJack" system, which enabled police to track its location effectively.
Authorities traced the stolen Hyundai to a parking lot at Whitney Young Apartments. Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect fleeing from the apartments heading south onto El Morro Road. Despite multiple commands to surrender, the boy chose to run from the scene.
After a brief pursuit, officers apprehended the suspect and discovered he had the keys to the stolen Hyundai in his possession. He now faces several charges, including second-degree motor vehicle theft, felony eluding, and obstruction.
This incident underscores the importance of vehicle tracking systems like LoJack in recovering stolen vehicles and the swift actions of law enforcement in apprehending suspects.
