LONGVIEW -- A Longview police officer was injured on Saturday night while responding to a vehicle burglary. According to KETK, officers were dispatched around 11:22 p.m. to the 700 block of Lincoln Drive for a burglary in progress. During the search, they discovered the burglarized vehicle and located the suspect inside a second vehicle on Kenwood Drive.

While attempting to apprehend the suspect, officers were unaware that he was armed with a handgun. During the arrest process, one officer was shot. Other officers quickly provided first aid and called for Longview Fire EMS to the scene.

The injured officer was subsequently taken to a local hospital, and officials have reported that the injuries are not life-threatening.

The Longview Police Department confirmed that the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges related to the incident.

This case highlights the risks law enforcement officers face while on duty, and the department praised the quick response of the officers who assisted their injured colleague.
