Troup County Deputies investigate road rage shooting on I-85, 1 injured

The Troup County Sheriff's Office is investigating a road rage shooting that took place on Interstate 85 Southbound, near mile marker 21. The incident occurred on March 9th, 2025, around 6:30 a.m., prompting deputies to respond to the scene.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 56-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the eye. He was promptly transported to a hospital in the Columbus area for medical treatment, but his condition remains unknown.
According to investigators, the victim reported that an unknown male was driving a silver vehicle, potentially a Hyundai or KIA SUV, and had been aggressively cutting him off in traffic. This confrontation escalated, leading the suspect to fire multiple shots at the victim's car, injuring him in the process.
Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene and continued traveling south on Interstate 185. Authorities have yet to identify the suspect or locate the vehicle involved in the incident.
