Three teenagers are in custody following a series of car thefts and burglaries in Rexburg, which began late Friday night. According to the Rexburg Police Department, the incidents were reported around 10:30 p.m. in the Henderson subdivision, where two young individuals, described as possibly Hispanic, were seen attempting to break into vehicles and homes near the Everett Place apartments.

The police initially noted that at least one tablet had been stolen from a car, and a vehicle was subsequently taken as well. A deputy from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office later spotted the suspects on the railroad tracks, but they fled after the stolen vehicle became disabled. This prompted a search involving drones and tracking.

Around midnight, the suspects were located again, allegedly trying to steal another vehicle near Grand Loop, but were interrupted by a car alarm and fled the scene toward Johnson Street. Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, authorities confirmed that two of the suspects were in custody.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered at least one more stolen vehicle in Idaho Falls, along with other items that have yet to be identified. The names of the suspects have not been publicly released, likely due to their minor status.

The investigation into these incidents is ongoing, and Rexburg Police Chief Josh Rhodes has been contacted for further information. Updates will be provided as more details emerge.
