Secret Service shoots gunman near White House

Early Sunday morning, a U.S. Secret Service officer shot an armed man after a confrontation near the White House, according to officials. The incident occurred shortly after midnight at the intersection of 17th and G Street NW, just a block away from the White House and close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The man had reportedly traveled from Indiana, and local authorities had alerted the Secret Service about his suicidal tendencies.
