Among those involved, former Officer Eric Rombough is now serving as a key witness after accepting a plea deal in January. Rombough's statements reveal the disturbing culture among officers, where they not only used racial epithets but also treated individuals as targets, celebrating their actions with rewards such as extravagant dinners. San Jose State Criminal Justice Professor Greg Woods emphasized that Rombough’s testimony contradicts the defense's claims that the offending texts were taken out of context or exaggerated.
