Mulberry Walmart Heist Fail: Polk City Woman's Undercover Theft Foiled

A Polk City woman was arrested on Saturday afternoon at a Walmart in Mulberry after attempting to steal over $400 worth of merchandise and giving a false identity to law enforcement. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., prompting a response from the Polk County Sheriff's Office following a report of a retail theft with the suspect already detained by store security.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted the suspect, later identified as 54-year-old Tobi Willis. Initially, she provided a false name and date of birth, but the deputy quickly uncovered her true identity. The Sheriff's Office reported that Willis had concealed items in a bag and went to the restroom, where she allegedly changed into stolen clothing underneath her own.
Following the investigation, Willis was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. She now faces charges for retail theft and providing false identification to authorities.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of retail theft in local stores. Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement.
