Secret Service shoots 27-year-old Indiana man in 'armed confrontation' near White House

On March 9, the United States Secret Service shot an adult male during an armed confrontation in Washington, D.C. The incident unfolded after local police reported a "suicidal individual" potentially traveling from Indiana to the nation's capital.

Late at night, around midnight, Secret Service personnel located the individual's vehicle parked near 17th and F streets NW. They then identified a person on foot who matched the description provided by the police.

As officers approached the suspect, he brandished a firearm, prompting a confrontation in which shots were exchanged. The suspect was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital, although his condition remains unknown. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries among the Secret Service personnel involved in the incident.

The Secret Service issued a statement regarding the confrontation, highlighting the urgency of the situation. "As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm and an armed confrontation ensued," the agency noted in its social media update.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Andrew Dawson from North Manchester, Indiana. The Metropolitan Police Department's Internal Affairs Division is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
