Family of CU Boulder student Megan Trussell says purse was found ripped, and shoe, phone are still missing
Investigators are gaining new insights into the case of Megan Trussell, an 18-year-old University of Colorado Boulder student whose body was found last month after she went missing from campus. Trussell was last captured on surveillance video leaving Hallett Hall on February 9. A body matching her description was discovered by park rangers on February 15 in a remote area, later confirmed as Trussell by the Boulder County Coroner's Office on February 18.
Recently, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office announced the recovery of Trussell's damaged purse, although specific details regarding its location and content remain undisclosed. This discovery has left her family with more questions than answers. Trussell's cousin, Rebecca Perez, revealed that she was only wearing one shoe when found, which has raised concerns of a potential struggle leading up to her death.
The purse, identified as a unique piece made by Trussell's mother, was discovered on March 5 along U.S. Highway 36, several miles from where her body was located. Observers noted that the purse appeared ripped, arousing suspicion about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance. "It doesn't make any sense," Perez said, expressing frustration over the slow pace of the investigation.
The Boulder County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate Trussell's death, with the cause and manner yet to be determined. Despite community anxiety, foul play is not currently suspected, according to officials. Det. Cmdr.
