Troopers: Wasilla officer kills man who shot at police after threatening family

WASILLA, Alaska (KTUU) - A Wasilla resident, Brett George, was shot and killed by law enforcement after allegedly firing an assault rifle at a police car on Sunday evening, according to Alaska State Troopers. The incident began when a 911 call at around 10 p.m. reported that George was threatening family members with a weapon.
As police arrived at the scene, George reportedly donned body armor and armed himself with an assault rifle before fleeing in his vehicle, allowing the victims to escape the residence. A Wasilla police officer later attempted a traffic stop on George's car, but he fled from the scene, prompting a pursuit.
The chase culminated at the intersection of Knik Goose Bay Road and Settlers Bay Drive, where George exited his vehicle and fired the assault rifle at the marked police car. In response, the officer returned fire, hitting George, who was subsequently declared dead at the scene.
Alaska State Troopers confirmed that no other injuries were reported during the confrontation. The identity of the police officer involved will be released after a 72-hour period, per departmental policy.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is now leading the investigation into the incident, which will also undergo an independent review by the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions once completed.
