MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A 59-year-old woman was brutally raped at the Canal Street subway station early Friday morning, as reported by the NYPD. The incident occurred when an unidentified assailant approached her on a stairwell, violently struck her, and forced her to the ground.

Following the attack, the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Authorities are actively investigating the case to gather more information about the assailant and the circumstances surrounding the crime.
