Billings police arrest armed man following hourlong standoff

BILLINGS - On Wednesday evening, Billings police took a man into custody after a standoff lasting approximately one hour on the South Side. The individual, identified as 31-year-old Avonte Russell, faces several charges including assault with a weapon, partner/family member assault, and obstructing a peace officer, as reported by Lt. Samantha Puckett on social media.
The situation unfolded around 4:23 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Fourth Avenue South following reports of an uncooperative suspect allegedly armed with a weapon.
Authorities managed to apprehend Russell at 5:30 p.m. Fortunately, the incident concluded without any injuries reported.
