Two men arrested after traffic stop in Albany, charged with felonies

Two men were taken into custody for felony firearm possession in Albany following a traffic stop conducted by the Albany County Sheriff's Community Oriented Policing Effort on Thursday evening. The traffic stop occurred around 5:54 p.m. at the intersection of Eagle Street and Morton Avenue.
The driver, Maleek S. McMurray, 24, from Troy, was found with a loaded Stoeger STR 9mm handgun that had a high-capacity magazine containing twelve rounds. The passenger, Patris J. Derville Jr., 26, from Albany, was discovered carrying a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P .45 caliber firearm, which investigators determined had been stolen from Rutland County, Vermont.
Derville is currently on parole in New York for a prior felony conviction related to illegal firearm possession. Both firearms were reportedly concealed in the waistbands of the suspects during the traffic stop.
As a result of the incident, McMurray faces several charges including felony second-degree and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, as well as multiple traffic violations. Derville has been charged similarly, along with felony fourth-degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property due to the nature of the firearm he possessed.
Both men were transported to Albany County Jail and are being held as pre-arraign detainees. They are scheduled for arraignment in Albany City Criminal Court on Friday.
