Scottsbluff man accused of killing father by setting him on fire

A Scottsbluff man is facing serious charges after allegedly setting his father on fire, leading to the elder man's death. The incident unfolded at their shared residence, located at 1022 11th Ave., on Wednesday night around 9:43 p.m.
Emergency responders, including the Scottsbluff Police and Fire Departments, arrived at the scene to find 74-year-old Anthony Cervantes deceased inside the home. His son, 44-year-old Elijah Cervantes, was subsequently located and arrested.
Elijah Cervantes has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree arson in connection with the tragic event. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the Fire.
Assisting the Scottsbluff Police in this case are several agencies, including the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, the Gering Police Department, CERT, and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office. They are working together to gather details and evidence regarding the incident.
